Tenants

  • Journeys Aviation, contracted FBO operator
  • Brungard Aviation (airplane repair)
  • NEON Aviation (scientific aerial mapping)
  • Soaring Society
The fixed based operator, FBO, provides aviation services, such as fuel, parking, and hangar space, to the General Aviation (GA) community.

Non tenant users

Any plane up to a certain size (what size?) is allowed to use BDU whenever and however they like.  With the proliferation of flight schools in the Denver region, many pilots fly to BDU to practice in the training areas surrouding BDU and practice touch and goes using the BDU runway.   it is very likely that the majority of runway users at BDU are not tenants.   Currently their use of the airport is completely free of charge.

We do not know exactly who the users of our sky and BDU are.   The industry may not even know as much as they should about these users.   (see Safety.)    The industry seems to like it this way.    It's less money and effort to just let pilots do what they want, as long as they are renting and flying planes.

Airport users and the 'pilot shortage'

Fuel sales and tanks

BDU hosts two underground fuel storage farms.  Leaded fuel is sold by the FBO, Journeys.
Underground fuel tanks have been deemed to be environmental problems.    Santa Monica? leakages.  Replacement with unleaded fuel would likely result in above ground tanks.
Lead
"The facilities need renovation and capital investment. Predictable preventative maintenance programs applicable to buildings, pavement, markings, signage, landscaping have been reactive and fallen behind peer airports, affecting the experiences for tenants and visitors."

One suggestion for addressing this 'aging infrastructure' is to take more FAA money.
